WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 – You could say the Des Moines Menace Academy 11U and 12U girls scared away the competition in the Halloween-themed Burlington Monster Match.

In Sunday’s Ghoul Division final, the 11U girls won a nail-bitter, 1-0, over AYSO United (Cedar Rapids) after a goal from Kendall Eischen. In the Phantom Division, the 12Us won their third-place game, also against AYSO United, after being tied for first in group play and losing a coin flip.

“The two teams had a great weekend on and off of the field in the fun atmosphere Monster Match created,” said head coach Russ Fortune. “All of the players really did a great job over the weekend, and it will be fun to see how the players continue to progress throughout the year.”

The Menace Academy teams also competed in the tournament’s costume contest. The 11U group donned fluorescent clothing from the 1980s and the 12U girls were bowling pins.
